Heath Ledger said, "I think the most common cause of insomnia is simple; it's loneliness."
I think the most poignant form of loneliness is when you're not alone. Then one realizes that the space of lonely (anagrams 'one', 'only') cannot be filled by 'any' or 'many'.
One example. Everyone around has had 5 rounds of Jagerbombs; so have you. Everyone around has reached tipsy and uninhibited, except you. And, lonely presents itself, because you are so near to everyone you could hug them, but, their world of unrestrained glories, is not the same sane one you occupy anymore. Laughter and pictures never exhibit more than what you see or hear.
Goodnight.

alternatively, one could argue, that in the scenario painted above, being lonely was a choice.
there's always a choice.
