I humiliated myself. Acting like any other narrow minded, self-assuming person, I categorized two people under not so desirable headings that made me burrow in shame when I found out they were better citizens than myself. Armed with inked arms and scalps, they were the epitome of parang-bearers; or so I assumed. Moreover they had the habit of gangsters (another stereotype, I apologize) who dominated the bus walkway by standing in a lateral position so they overwhelm the space in a physical representation of their authority. I tried to act cool and not catch their eye; just in case they thought I was staring. When I reached my stop, it was theirs too. As I walked to the exit (I was sitting pretty far back), I saw one of the guys lifting a heavy bag. He got off the same time as I. I walked to the left, but not before seeing him pass it to an elderly woman whom he had just helped. In fact, both of them had helped the lady carry her stash off the bus. And I merely walked.
I apologize for stereotyping.
